A Saddlerock Ranch Wedding: Christina and Frank in the Malibu Hills
A real Saddlerock Ranch wedding in Malibu wine country: a cathedral veil at the stone gazebo, a pampas and orchid arch against the sandstone rocks, a golden-hour first dance, and a glow-stick send-off.
High in the Malibu hills, Saddlerock Ranch spreads its vineyards beneath walls of sandstone, one of the most dramatic natural backdrops in Southern California wedding country. Christina and Frank married there on a July evening in 2020, with prep across the canyon at the Westlake Village Inn and a hilltop ceremony that put those famous rocks behind their vows.
This is the same wine-country corridor as Allison and Joshua's Triunfo Creek wedding and Monica and Colin's Calamigos celebration, and every property in it photographs differently. Saddlerock's signature is scale: big rocks, big sky, big light.
Robes, a Staircase, and Window Light
The morning at the Westlake Village Inn ran on champagne and floral robes, Christina's crew piled onto the settee, and then the gown: beaded illusion lace with a cathedral veil, photographed descending the Inn's ironwork staircase and again as a silhouette in the tall window.
Frank's prep kept it classic, a midnight tuxedo and cufflinks in the timbered doorway light.
Vows Against the Sandstone
The ceremony stood on Saddlerock's hilltop lawn: an arch of pampas grass, white orchids, and garden roses with the sandstone formations glowing behind it. Christina came down the petal-lined aisle carrying a bouquet of dried blooms and pampas, and the vows played out against a wall of rock and blue sky that no ballroom could fake.
The hero image of this story came moments later at the ranch's iron gazebo, her veil unfurled across the ground beneath a sky stacked with summer clouds. Some venues hand you one signature frame; Saddlerock hands you five.
Golden Hour to Glow Sticks
The evening earned its Malibu reputation: a portrait at blue hour with the ocean haze fading to lavender behind the hills, and a first dance on the lawn in light so gold it looked poured. The reception ran under string lights with a Drunk in Love bar, a champagne wall, and pampas arrangements carrying the ceremony's palette through dinner.
The send-off traded sparklers for glow sticks, a tunnel of neon waving them into the night. Twenty twenty asked weddings to adapt; this one turned every adaptation into style.
