A Solaz Los Cabos Destination Wedding: Yana and Jonathan by the Sea of Cortez
A real destination wedding at Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort in Los Cabos: a pampas arch on the sand, a bride on horseback, a blue-hour portrait in the resort's stone corridor, and fireworks over the first dance.
Some love stories start with a script. Yana and Jonathan's began at a company murder-mystery night, a Margaritaville-themed one, no less, where the characters they were assigned kept flirting with each other. Three years of friendship and adventures later, Jonathan proposed after a helicopter tour over Maui's waterfalls, with a surprise photographer waiting on the landing site. So when it came time to marry, an ordinary ballroom was never going to happen.
They chose Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort on the Tourist Corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, where sculptural travertine architecture meets the Sea of Cortez. We flew down with them, because destination weddings are one of the great privileges of this job.
Floral Robes and Desert Light
The morning ran barefoot and bright: Yana's crew in vivid floral robes cheering her on, and a high-key veil portrait in the suite's white light that looks like it was made in a studio. Baja's light is desert light, clean and hard-edged, and it rewards a photography team that knows when to soften it and when to let it bite.
Jonathan's prep was quieter, a charcoal suit, a boutonniere of dried blooms, and the kind of calm that comes from marrying your best friend of three years.
A Pampas Arch on the Sand
The ceremony stood on a white deck above the beach: a geometric arch dressed in pampas grass and coral ginger, the Sea of Cortez rolling behind it, and their families in every shade of desert rose. Yana and Jonathan said their vows to the sound of surf, and sealed them under a veil-draped kiss we photographed close.
February in Los Cabos is the sweet spot, warm sun, cool evenings, and a horizon that stays sharp all day for exactly this kind of frame.
A Horse on the Beach, a Corridor at Blue Hour
Then the portraits went full Baja. Yana rode a horse down the beach in her gown, a frame we made on medium format because some moments deserve every pixel, and as the sun dropped we walked to Solaz's signature: the monolithic stone corridor that frames the sea like a doorway to it.
The hero image of this story came there at blue hour, Yana's train glowing in a pool of light, the two of them small between the great walls, the last of the day dissolving into the water beyond. It is one of our favorite destination frames we have ever made.
Fireworks and a Floor Full of Friends
The reception turned the pool terrace into a party: a first dance under a canopy of hanging greenery and string lights, fireworks erupting behind them mid-song, and a dance floor that ended with groomsmen sliding across it on their knees.
Destination weddings distill a guest list down to the people who will fly for you, and it shows on the floor. Every frame from this night has someone laughing in it.
