A Hilton Garden Inn Victorville Wedding: Anthony and Desmond's High Desert Celebration
A real High Desert wedding in Victorville: two grooms in white shawl-collar tuxedos, vows and a ballroom celebration under one roof, sunset portraits in the desert scrub, and a gold-jacket second look at blue hour.
The High Desert does not get enough credit as a wedding backdrop. Anthony and Desmond married on the last day of March at the Hilton Garden Inn in Victorville, their home turf, and the desert outside town handed us some of the most dramatic portrait light of that spring: silver skies over open scrub, and a blue hour that seemed to go on forever.
Their story started at work, where the two of them met, and by the time Anthony proposed at a castle in Napa Valley, they had already collected the kind of memories that make a wedding day feel inevitable, including a first vacation together in the Dominican Republic that they still talk about. They found us on Instagram in the fall of 2017, and we photographed their engagement session before the wedding, from El Matador Beach to Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Two Grooms, One Roof
Anthony and Desmond planned the entire day at one property, prep, ceremony, and reception all inside the Hilton Garden Inn, which is one of the smartest logistical decisions a couple can make. No caravan between venues, no lost hour on the freeway, just a timeline that breathes.
The morning gave us the details we love: crisp white shirts, black bowties fastened in window light, and a quiet moment where one of the youngest members of the wedding party got his own bowtie straightened. Matching white shawl-collar tuxedos with black lapels waited on hangers, and they were worth the wait.
Vows at Five, Joy Immediately After
The ceremony began at five in the afternoon in the hotel's ballroom, dressed in white florals and soft uplighting. The frames that matter from a ceremony are rarely the posed ones, and this one gave us plenty of the other kind: Anthony and Desmond laughing through the officiant's words, hands joined, a room full of family leaning in.
Then came the walk back up the aisle, hand in hand in those matching white tuxedos, grinning at a room that was already on its feet. It is one of our favorite recessional frames of that year.
Into the Desert at Sunset
Right after family photos, we stole Anthony and Desmond away for sunset portraits in the open desert, minutes from the hotel. Victorville sits in the Mojave's High Desert, and that landscape, silver sky, low scrub, and endless space, is a gift for couples willing to get a little dust on their shoes. The hero image of this story, the two of them walking hand in hand through the brush, came from that window.
This is the case we make to every High Desert couple: you do not need a coastal cliff to make dramatic portraits. The desert you drive past every day does things the coast cannot.
A Ballroom Turned Party
By seven the ballroom had flipped for the reception: throne chairs behind the head table, white rose centerpieces, and purple uplighting washing the drapery. The grand entrance kicked off an evening that did not slow down, and the dance floor stayed loud until our coverage ended after eleven.
For the reception, Anthony and Desmond changed into a second look, textured gold and black jackets, and the party met their energy. Ten hours of coverage sounds like a lot until you photograph a day like this one.
Blue Hour, Gold Jackets
Before the night swallowed the light completely, we stepped outside one more time. The desert at blue hour is a different planet, and Anthony and Desmond stood together in their gold jackets in a pool of light under a deep blue sky for the final portrait of the day. It is the frame that closes their album, and it is the one we would hang on a wall.
One property, one desert, two looks, and a couple who trusted us with all of it. That trust is the whole recipe.
