Some weddings whisper luxury and some celebrate it out loud. Shawni and Cash's June wedding at the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach in Dana Point was the second kind: a rotunda crowned in white roses and greenery, a cathedral train poured down the resort's grand staircase, tuxedos in black and white, and a party that treated the marble floor like a stage.
The Waldorf's architecture, all domes, balustrades, and ocean light, asks a photography team to work like a production crew. We did, and the frames below are the receipts.
The Barber's Chair and the Monogrammed Robe
Prep started with intention on both sides of the hall. Cash took the barber's chair for a fresh line-up and a hot towel, photographed in black and white like the ritual it is. Shawni held court in a monogrammed robe with her curls set, camera-ready before the gown ever left its hanger.
The frames a couple loves most from prep are rarely the posed ones. They are the mirror checks, the last quiet minutes, the craft.
A Train Down the Grand Staircase
Shawni's off-shoulder lace gown carried a train built for exactly one location: the Waldorf's grand staircase beneath the dome. We spread it down the sweep of the balustrade for the portrait this resort was designed to host, then brought her past the marquee LOVE letters under the rotunda ceiling.
Gowns like this deserve venues like this, and both deserve a photographer who will use every inch of them.
Vows in the Rotunda
Shawni came down the aisle glowing, escorted through a standing crowd, and met Cash beneath the botanical gazebo wrapped in white drapery. His grin through the vows needed no caption, and the ceremony ended beneath the floral-crowned rotunda that gave this story its hero image, the two of them backlit through the drapes, her veil catching the light.
June at Monarch Beach hands you a soft coastal sky until the last hour. We planned the ceremony's coverage around exactly that glow.
A Twirl on Marble
The ballroom kept the palette, candlelight, white florals, and a mirrored dance floor, and the first dance ended in a full twirl, Shawni's gown flaring across the marble as the room lit up phones and cheers. The night ran long and loud, exactly as commissioned.
The last frame we made was the getaway: Shawni laughing through the car window, veil still on, day complete.
