The Wayfarer’s Chapel is a truly unique venue. The all-glass exterior puts you right into the heart of the beautiful natural environment surrounding the chapel. Being surrounded by towering redwood trees, and the beautifully designed interior made up of Palos Verdes stone creates a wonderful fantasy-like atmosphere.
The breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island is paired with the gorgeous landscape surrounding it. But even more impressive than the encompassing greenery is the masterfully designed architecture of the church. The wood and steel framing is dwarfed by the all-glass exterior that turns the church grounds into a part of the chapel itself.
Wayfarers Chapel offers a virtual tour of the grounds on their website.
History
Wayfarers Chapel has been hosting weddings for couples of all religious backgrounds for more than sixty years. The chapel was designed by Lloyd Wright and offers a gorgeous setting for your wedding day.
Wayfarer’s Chapel started as a dream for Elizabeth Schellenberg, who was a member of the Swedenborgian Church. The chapel was completed in 1951 and served as a place for wayfarers to stop and rest. It continues to serve as a chapel and a memorial, as well as a unique piece of architectural history.
Wayfarers was named one of the 7 most incredible churches to visit on Travel Awaits, mostly because of it’s magnificent location overlooking the pacific ocean. This is one of the most popular wedding venues in all of Los Angeles, and frequently visited by celebrities as it is a common place for filming to occur in LA.
Parking
Wayfarers Chapel provides a large parking lot for your guests. It’s best to tell those that need to be in the wedding to be there a bit early so they can get parking in the top lot.
Capacity
Wayfarers Chapel can accommodate up to 100 guests, plus your wedding party. While not a huge cathedral, it’s quaint and beautiful, perfect for an intimate ceremony!
What to know about Photography
Wayfarers Chapel is a unique venue! There is a lot of natural light pouring in from the glass ceilings. That is good because it leads to a lot of natural beauty, but it also can be difficult to shoot early in the day because the sun casts shadows through the trees and onto the ceremony. Therefore, we always recommend couples choose the later ceremony start time. While this may cost a little bit more, it will pay dividends with much better photos!
After your ceremony, you will want to schedule 15-20 minutes to be photographed outside of the venue overlooking the ocean. The trees and open sky lead to the perfect opportunities for beautiful photography. The possibilities are endless so you will want to find a time slot that doesn’t rush you to take your portraits.
